All trailers up to 750 kg belong to category O1 and can be registered in two ways: with a third plate, or with a separate plate and registration papers. A category B driving licence is enough to tow them. Trailers from 751 kg to 3,500 kg belong to category O2 — the driver needs a B+E or C+E licence. The trailer is registered with its own plate, papers and green card, and can then be towed by any towing vehicle, including vehicles with foreign plates.
There are two options. With a third plate, the trailer may only be towed by the vehicle the plate was issued for, using that vehicle's green card. With full registration (separate plate, papers and green card), the trailer can be towed by any towing vehicle, including vehicles with foreign plates.
